About Me
Mairi Grant Photography, Turriff
I thought I would introduce myself so here is a little bit about me.
​
I was born in Aberdeen and brought up locally in Aberdeenshire in a small village called Aberchirder,
I trained in Glasgow as a Clinical Counsellor and also studied Psychology and Criminal Psychology
I currently work with Children's Services and my time is shared between this and my photography.
After I got married to Calum in 1998, we moved to Turriff and then out to the countryside between Turriff and Fyvie where we have lived for 17 years. We love living here, it has been a wonderful place to bring up our 5 children. We have lots of wildlife visiting our garden and of course we enjoy our own pets (Our dogs and our flock of Zwartbles Sheep and of course our many macro photography workshop beasties)

A bit more about me -I have been interested in photography since childhood and got my first Canon camera at age 11, very soon after that I was hooked! Photography was my main hobby right through my teenage years into adulthood. Over the years I have honed my art and made it into the successful business you see today- providing wedding photography, portrait photography and event photography in Aberdeenshire and Moray, sometimes further afield alongside my leisure photography pursuits. I continue to improve my work by being involved in various photographic societies and photography competitions.

I am a qualified member of The Guild of Photographers and The Society of International Nature & Wildlife Photographers. I am a member of the Royal Photographic Society, The Society of Wedding and Portrait Photographers and The Society of International Commercial & Industrial Photographers.
​
I think it is important to be in these guilds and societies, to always be challenging myself to improve, learn new skills and be part of large photographic communities where I have met some wonderful people some of whom, I am proud to call friends and mentors.
I am also an award winning, published photographer and have been published in several photography magazines, newspapers and online publications.
For my current photography I have a variety of cameras, all Canon- both full frame and Crop sensor, I use the Canon 1DXii, Canon 6D, Canon 80D and occasionally the Canon 750D or 500D with a variety of lenses.

Professionally I photograph Weddings, families/pets and also do product and event photography, I also run photography workshops where I get to meet/teach people from all walks of life.
I also sell photographic prints, wall art and photo gifts of all my work.
It is an absolute honour to have my work hung in so many homes across the local area, the UK and indeed many homes worldwide.
I love photographing wildlife, macro subjects and landscapes in my spare time and as a family we love nature and the great outdoors which of course brings more photography opportunities.
On rainy days I can often be found experimenting with a new indoor photography project! I'm always doing something creative and thinking of new ideas in my quest to create awesome images.

I take great pleasure in bringing joy to everyone I share my photography with, it is so lovely to be able to share the beautiful things I see with those who perhaps are not able to get out and about to enjoy the outdoors and this is a main motivation each time I go on a trip.
Equally I enjoy the educational aspect of sharing my photographs and knowledge with people, particularly during my studio workshops. I enjoy the teaching aspect and take so much joy in seeing others improve their photography and again this is what drives me to keep challenging myself so that I am more able to help others on their photography journey.
